The District Court of Görlitz was a district court in the GDR with its seat in the city of Görlitz in the Dresden district .

history

There was already a district court in Görlitz during the Prussian period . The royal district court of Görlitz was founded on April 1st, 1849 and initially had its seat in the stock exchange (today: Hotel Börse ) on the Untermarkt . The court building on Postplatz was built for the Prussian district court between 1863 and 1865 .

Through the Courts Constitution Act of the GDR passed on October 2, 1952, district and city courts were established in the GDR at the level of the districts founded on July 25, 1952. The district court of Görlitz had been responsible for the district of Görlitz since 1952. The urban district of Görlitz had its own city court until April 1, 1979. In 1979 the city and district courts were merged to form a joint district court. The area of ​​responsibility now extended over the city and district of Görlitz. The district court existed until December 31, 1992. The district court's successor is the Görlitz district court .

The District Court of Dresden was superordinate to the district courts in the Dresden district.
