history

As early as the Middle Ages around 1250, an institution was established in the margrave town of Schopfheim to alleviate the needs of the poor and poor, widows and orphans under the supervision of the governor and council, administered on behalf of the city by a hospital nurse and his hospital servant.

From 1876, a hospital with sickrooms on three floors, a separate kitchen, a cell for the mentally ill, a " scabies room " and two rooms for infectious patients was set up in a former silk factory that had previously served as a military hospital . The beds of the "slightly ill" were not in the rooms, but in the hallways. On behalf of the city, the management of the house was the responsibility of the deaconess mother house in Karlsruhe , which sent nine nurses to Schopfheim.

On October 15, 1916, a new building with 85 places, 14 nurses, two auxiliary nurses and a nurse could be moved into on Schwarzwaldstrasse. In 1959 a sister house was built. Between 1960 and 1972 the number of beds rose to 142.
