The district teaching garden of Bad Grönenbach is located on the Schlossberg in the immediate vicinity of the High Castle in Bad Grönenbach , in the Unterallgäu district , Bavaria . The groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the district teaching garden took place in 1999 and was inaugurated on July 29, 2000.

Kreislehrgarten

The garden consists of three main areas, the castle garden with a cottage garden, since 2002 a vineyard on the western side of the castle hill, and a herb garden. In the cottage garden there are numerous types of vegetables as well as roses and flowering perennials. Around 50 vines of different table grapes are in the vineyard. In addition to the vines, different types of blackberries, raspberries and kiwis are also planted. Numerous herbs such as lemon balm , sage and foxglove are available in the herb garden area. There has also been a training apiary on the site since 2006. The maintenance of the educational garden is carried out on a voluntary basis by various horticultural associations in the Unterallgäu district.

In spring 2002, two living arbors were planted from different trees in the teaching garden. One arbor consists of a hornbeam , the other arbor of norway maple . The idea of ​​using living trees to build structures was published by Arthur Wiechula as early as 1926 , but only implemented much later.
