The Kreissparkasse Meiningen was the public savings bank of the city of Meiningen and the district of Meiningen . In 1995 it merged with the Kreissparkassen Schmalkalden and Suhl to form the Rhön-Rennsteig-Sparkasse based in Meiningen.

history

The Kreissparkasse Meiningen was founded in 1882 a few years after the district of Meiningen was founded under District Administrator Rudolf Ziller. Their first seat was the office building in the Marienstrasse. At first she kept accounts for public and state institutions such as the Meiningen garrison, the district administration and the court theater. At that time, private accounts were mostly set up with the Stadtsparkasse Meiningen .

In 1922 the Kreissparkasse first moved to the rotunda of Elisabethenburg Palace before moving into its own building in Wettiner Strasse in 1929. The house is used as a branch building to the present day. After the city of Zella-Mehlis was encircled in 1938, the bank was renamed “Kreissparkasse Meiningen-Zella-Mehlis”. In 1940 the Kreissparkasse merged with the Stadtsparkasse Meiningen.

After the Second World War , it was renamed “Verbandssparkasse Meiningen-Zella-Mehlis”. In 1952, after the reorganization of the savings bank system in the GDR, it became a public savings and credit institute for private customers under the name "Kreissparkasse Meiningen". In 1963 the Kreissparkasse moved into the building of the former Deutsche Hypothekenbank , which in 1992 came into the possession of the Kreissparkasse. From 1993 she had the house redesigned and renovated. In 1995 the Kreissparkasse Meiningen became part of the Rhön-Rennsteig-Sparkasse.
