history

In 1871 August Krempel founded a paper and cardboard shop in Stuttgart , which developed into a diversified company.

In 1911, the company's founder's sons bought a paper factory in Vaihingen an der Enz and in 1918 they began producing pressboard - an electrical insulation material made from cellulose . When pressboard was no longer required only as sheet goods, but also as roll goods, continuous roll pressboard production started in 1962 in the newly built Kuppenheim plant .

At the end of the 1960s, the Vaihingen / Enz plant was converted to a new production technology to manufacture fiber composite materials.

The company's headquarters have also been in Vaihingen / Enz since 1988. After German reunification, two production sites in Saxony were taken over and modernized in 1991. In the Thalheim plant there is a production line for the continuous production of roll pressboard, in the Zwönitz plant pressboard and special papers as well as complex fiber composite assemblies are manufactured.

In 2000, Krempel took over the two English companies Jones Stroud Insulations (JSI) and Anglo-American Vulcanized Fiber (AAVF). In 2006, Krempel founded his own company in China for the production of electrical insulation materials and special laminates.

In 2012, the globalization of the Krempel Group was further expanded with the acquisition of DMI, Brazil.

In 2018, the company hit the international headlines after Bellingcat distributed a photo showing the remains of an Iranian grenade with insulation material made of cardboard pressboard. Krempel stated that he had stopped all deliveries of the material intended as insulation material for electric motors to Iran and that the Federal Office of Economics and Export Control (Bafa) had been involved.
