Krempoli - A Place for Wild Children was a German television series for children that was created and broadcast in the 1970s.
The series is set in Munich and is about children who initially cannot find any play opportunities in their environment. The friendly owner of a bulky waste warehouse - later lovingly called "Grandpa Krempel" by the children (played by Hannes Gromball, who was by no means old at the time ) - lets them on his property and helps them to set up a kind of adventure playground . This place gets the name "Krempoli" (because of the many junk lying around there) and becomes the center of life for the children. However, the neighbors are narrow-minded and the authorities are a thorn in the side. The children experience all kinds of adventures, they have to defend their “place for wild children” and, in addition, hack up all sorts of pranks. In the penultimate episode "Grandpa Krempel" is arrested and in the last episode the Krempoli is torn down by excavators.
intention
Krempoli is undoubtedly in the tradition of films like Pippi Longstocking (here, however, without the fantastic element) and is also a typical product of the 1970s: It was about emancipating the interests of children over the interests of adults. While the adults are mostly portrayed as selfish and idiotic (with the exception of a few sympathetic figures), the children act in solidarity with one another and are also interested in the needs of their environment. They are superior to adults in their spontaneity and creativity, so that they often emerge victorious in arguments - despite their supposedly weaker position.
