The Kreuzkirche is next to the Dreieinigkeitskirche the second large Protestant church in Zeulenroda .

After the previous buildings of today's Kreuzkirche in the same place burned down several times - the last time in 1818 - Pastor Alfred Resch founded a church building fund in 1866 , which, together with the support of foundations and the city, made it possible to start rebuilding the church. In 1885 the Kreuzkirche was consecrated in its present form on the 1st of Advent . In 1887 the organ was installed. In the 1990s the church was extensively renovated.

The middle altar window is a donation from Prince Heinrich XXII. Reuss and shows Jesus Christ on the cross and the Reussian coat of arms. The city cemetery is located next to the Kreuzkirche.
