) is thehistory
prehistory
Since the early days of Zeulenroda, a church was built on the site of today's church. The first documented predecessor church was destroyed in the last years of the Thirty Years War around 1645. It was not replaced by a new building until 1695. It was a small baroque church. In 1706 the church was severely damaged in a city fire, with the entire church archive being burned. A lightning strike damaged the church again in 1744, before it was completely destroyed in the town fire in 1790.
Construction of the church in 1820
Since the city of Zeulenroda was completely impoverished and a little later the Napoleonic Wars broke out, no new church could initially be built. The new church, which was built according to the design by Christian Heinrich Schopper , was inaugurated in 1820 . It is a classicist hall church, but the tower is located above the chancel in the east and not above the entrance in the west, which is usually the rule for a church in East Thuringia. The construction costs were around 20,000 thalers.
Minor renovation work in the 20th century
In 1903 the interior was renewed, whereby the paintings were changed according to the taste of the time. The tower button was gilded in 1911. In 1984 the galleries were renovated.
Comprehensive renovation after 1990
On October 19, 1989, the first People's Thursday took place in the church , which initiated the demonstrations against the GDR regime in Zeulenroda .
In 1990 the church had to be closed due to heavy infestation with real dry rot . The tower was secured in 1991/1992. In 1993/1994 the roof was renewed and in 1996 the renovation work began on the tower, which was ended with the installation of the new tower hood in 1999. The renovation of the interior began in 2004, including the purchase of new church stalls in historical style. The renovation work was completed in 2005 with a new paint job, so that the completely renovated church could be inaugurated again on August 21, 2005 after almost ten years of construction.
Furnishing
Indoor
The altar painting from 1822 shows the entombment of Christ and is by Ehregott Grünler . In 2005, the Altenburg painter Tilman Kuhrt created a modern fresco that depicts the twelve apostles and scenes from the New Testament in life-size and pastel tones . Among the figures shown on the fresco is the local entrepreneur Hans B. Bauerfeind , who supported the renovation of the church with 500,000 euros.
Outdoor area
In front of the Dreieinigkeitskirche a memorial stone has been commemorating the Peaceful Revolution in 1989 in the GDR since October 2009 .
organ
In 1821 the organ of the organ builder Friedrich Wilhelm Trampeli from Adorf was used. It was replaced in 1925 by a new building with 42 stops , three manuals and a pedal from Gebr. Jehmlich (Dresden) with a pneumatic action mechanism and a cone chest. The case was completely rebuilt in the style of the previous organ by a Zeulenroda furniture company. The disposition was slightly changed during the general overhaul in 2005.
