The motorcycle brand Krieger-Gnädig , better known as KG , was founded in 1919 as Motor Vehicle Construction Gebrüder Krieger in Suhl . The brand often changed owners and company names. In 1922 it was bought by Cito -Werke AG in Suhl and Cologne-Sülz ( Luxemburger Strasse , right side, today Mercedes-Benz). Cito was in turn taken over by Köln-Lindenthaler Metallwerke AG ( Allright ), also in Cologne-Sülz. From 1927 KG belonged to Paul Henkel Fahrradbau in Mäbendorf near Suhl.

history

Karl Krieger was the chauffeur of Kaiser Wilhelm II. He and his brothers Oskar, Max and Peter were enthusiastic about aircraft technology. Karl Krieger took leave of absence to build his own aircraft, with the engine said to have been donated by Wilhelm II. The Krieger brothers built their first monoplane , on which Karl Krieger passed the test for his flight license in 1911.

After the First World War , the German Reich was no longer allowed to maintain aircraft due to the Treaty of Versailles , so that aircraft construction in Germany almost completely came to a standstill. Oskar, Peter and Max Krieger then turned to motorcycle construction and found a colleague in the design engineer Franz Gnädig. Together they developed a motorbike with cardan drive - the first in Germany - three years before the well-known BMW R 32 was launched in 1923. Their own overhead single-cylinder block engine with a displacement of 500 cm³ was equipped with two oil pumps for automatic lubrication . Many other new ideas were incorporated into this design, such as removable wheels with quick release axle , enclosed propeller shaft , a new braking system, etc. The bad economy and high manufacturing costs led to the assumption by the Cito-Werke in 1922, in turn, a year later by the Cologne-Lindenthaler Metallwerke (Allright) were bought. From 1927 the bicycle manufacturer Paul Henkel , an ex-technician from Cito and KLM, continued to build these machines in small series.

After KG was taken over by Cito, the Krieger brothers produced a car, the K-2, from 1925 to 1926. Franz Gnädig also left the company after the takeover.

The KG motorcycles have been very successful in countless races and reliability drives.
