General

The war memorial in Altusried was erected in 1932 in memory of the 86 Altusried people who died or went missing in World War I. The sculptor Josef Mayer, born in Altusried, was responsible for the design and execution. He had already executed several monuments in the vicinity. The war memorial is made of Treuchtlinger marble , which was a very popular stone for monument construction at the time. It bears the inscription "I am the resurrection and the life" and shows a dying warrior looking up to the resurrected Christ . On the side there are 2 marble tablets with the names of 86 fallen and missing warriors. It was financed by the Andreas Hofer Festival, which was staged on the Altusried open-air stage in 1931, and was financially supported by the then Mayor Weizenegger.
