War memorial in Höhenkirchen

The Höhenkirchen war memorial is located on Rosenheimer Straße in the municipality of Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn in the Munich district . It commemorates the war dead in the community of Höhenkirchen. It is registered under the number D-1-84-127-6 as an architectural monument in the Bavarian monument list.

The Munich stonemason Balthasar Gschwendtner was commissioned to work on the war memorial for 20,000 marks. The amount was financed by a donation from the community, many small individual donations and one large donation. On August 21, 1921, the memorial was unveiled after a field service and pageant. At the unveiling, Friedrich Köhler from the warrior and veteran association spoke, and a living group of figures (soldier, Archangel Michael, Germania) framed the monument.

About half a year later (on January 8, 1922) the community (decision of the local council) took over the monument and committed itself to "... the renovation of all names and repairs in later years ...".

The monument is made of tuff ; it is a body standing on a pedestal with a lion resting on it. On the front there are two plaques with the fallen of the two world wars, underneath (base) a slogan invites them to commemorate them. On the south side of the corpus the names of the fallen soldiers of the 1870/1871 war are stamped, on the opposite side (north side) the names of the fallen soldiers of the Napoleonic campaign (1812) in Russia.
