The war memorial at Stadtpark Bochum is located in the south-western entrance area of Bochum Stadtpark near the Bochum Art Collection .

The war memorial based on designs by the sculptor Walter Becker was inaugurated in August 1935 in honor of the “heroes of the 4th Magdeburg Infantry Regiment No. 67 who remained during the World War 1914-1918” . Other inscriptions on the stone tablets include “Forward and upward despite hardship and death” . The places mentioned are Fillières , Dannevoux , Argonne , Verdun , Deuxnouds , Vauquois , Brimont , Flanders , Thiaucourt , Cambrai , Crozat Canal , Beauregard .

Two larger than life bronze soldiers in the uniforms of the Imperial Army and the Wehrmacht held a standard together to show their solidarity. Almost four decades after the end of the Second World War , they still expressed the national spirit of the Third Reich .

In February 1983, strangers sawed off the soldiers above the boots . The soldiers fell over in front. The Bochum city council decided to leave the soldiers in the city archive of Bochum. Another plaque with the inscription “Never again war and fascism” was put up instead.
