War memorial of the South Moravians

The war memorial of the South Moravians on the Schweinbarther Berg near Kleinschweinbarth in Lower Austria was erected in memory of the South Moravians who fell in the two world wars and those who died.

history

The war memorial or heroes memorial of the South Moravians on the Schweinbarther Berg was erected in 1975 as the renovation of a monument that was erected and destroyed on Czech territory.

Klentnitz

The suggestion for the erection of a war memorial for the South Moravians who fell in World War I came from the Gauturnwart des Turngaues Südmähren, Josef Freisinger, as early as 1919. A corresponding application was made at a meeting of the Gauturnrat in Pohrlitz on August 16, 1921 for a resolution and various Preparatory work committees set up.

The foundation stone for the monument designed by Hermann Zenker from Plauen in Saxony took place on October 2nd, 1923. It was built by a construction company based in Nikolsburg and workers from Klentnitz and the surrounding area.

On June 1, 1925, at the orphanage near Klentnitz in the Pollau Mountains, the all-Moravian war memorial for the southern Moravians who fell in World War I was consecrated. In 1945 this monument was blown up by Czechs.

The event program not only included demonstrations by the gymnastics clubs on the festival day, the sporting highlight was the so-called courier runs from numerous communities in South Moravia, but also from Pressburg to Klentnitz. The achievement of a five-person team from the German Technical University in Brno , which covered the 48-kilometer route to the war memorial in 3 hours and 40 minutes from the start at the German House , is highlighted .

Kleinschweinbarth

On the occasion of the 8th Kreuzberg meeting in 1970, the South Moravian Cross was elevated to the status of a memorial to all fallen and deceased South Moravians in place of the monument that was blown up in 1945.

Ludwig Galasek from Grusbach was commissioned by the South Moravian Landscape Council in Geislingen an der Steige to design a monument to commemorate the one in Klentnitz.

On March 2, 1975, a dummy was set up on the square below the South Moravian Cross for illustrative purposes and judged by representatives of the Landscape Council, the umbrella association of South Moravians in Austria, representatives of the Drasenhofen community and the Austrian Association of Comrades . The location and which design should actually be implemented were determined.

The new warrior or hero memorial was consecrated on June 1, 1975.
