War Memorial Medal

The War Memorial Medal was a state award of the First Republic of Austria and was donated by the Austrian government by law of December 21, 1932 (Federal Law Gazette No. 361/1932). It was awarded by the Federal Minister of the Army to soldiers in the country and to persons who were in government service or who cared for the wounded or sick during the First World War .

Appearance

The round medal made of tombac shows a standing, left-looking eagle with outstretched wings, with the Austrian coat of arms in its claws. Below the inscription FOR AUSTRIA . On the reverse, surrounded by a wreath of oak leaves , the years 1914 - 1918 .

Carrying method

The award was worn on a white triangular ribbon with two red central stripes and one red side stripe on the left side of the chest. Women wore the decoration on the lady's ribbon.

According to the ordinance (Federal Law Gazette No. 507/33) of November 10, 1933, persons who had received an imperial and royal bravery medal , the Karl Troop Cross or the Wound Medal were entitled to wear crossed swords on the ribbon of the war memorial medal.
