Spanish War Cross (2003)

The war cross ( esp. Cruz de guerra ) was a Spanish war award, which was donated on March 29, 1938 in a class as a breast star . With minor deviations, its appearance corresponded to the Maria-Christina-Kreuz from 1890.

Appearance

The war cross with a diameter (from tip to tip) of 60 mm is a massive silver eight-pointed star with brilliant, oxidized rays and shows in its center a golden cross, the ends of which widen in a paw from three right angles and each with a figure are designed. The left and right cross arms show a lion as a figure. The lower cross arm is filled with a fortress bearing the Spanish coat of arms, the upper one with a crown. The cross arms themselves have a net-like pattern and their edge is slightly raised and polished. On the upper cross arm, below the embedded crown, there is a polished clasp, which was used to engrave the occasion of the award. The cross is backed by a golden laurel wreath, through which a sword pointing upwards can be seen in the corners of the cross . The distance from sword pommel to sword pommel is 48.5 mm. The central medallion with a diameter of 25 mm shows the colored enamelled coat of arms of Castile and León , with the royal lily shield being replaced by a blue, oval central shield with a golden pomegranate ( Granada ). The coat of arms of Castile lies on a red enameled background and shows a castle . The coat of arms of León, on the other hand, lies on a white background and shows a lion that, due to manufacturing reasons, could not be kept red, but is gold. The coat of arms is surrounded by a blue lettering ring on which AL MERITO (above) and EN CAMPANA can be read.

Carrying method

The war cross was carried on the left side of the chest of the borrower. Its predecessor, the Maria-Christina-Kreuz, however, was still worn on the ribbon.
