War Cross 1940–45

The War Cross 1940–1945 ( Croix de Guerre ) was donated on April 17, 1945 by Grand Duchess Charlotte of Luxembourg and was intended to reward outstanding military deeds in the struggle for the liberation of the country. The award could be given to military personnel, members of paramilitary organizations and foreigners.

Appearance and wearing style

The decoration is made of bronze -made Maltese cross with beads on the cross points. Two crossed swords run through the cross angles . The crowned initial C (Charlotte) in the medallion . The year 1940 (occupation of the country) can be found in the medallion on the reverse .

The medal is surmounted by a crown with two smooth, rigid ribbons to which the carrying ring is attached.

The award is worn on a blue ribbon with five orange stripes on the left side of the chest.
