In the criminal case in Frankfurt's Niddapark , a 29-year-old woman was killed by massive violence on the night of May 9, 2018. The alleged killing offense in Niddapark in Frankfurt am Main is extraordinary, as the victim and the only - already arrested - suspect hit the headlines almost 15 months before the crime through an imaginary "sex mob in Frankfurter Freßgass ".

The crime in Niddapark

On May 9, 2018, around 6:30 a.m., a walker found a female corpse on a meadow in Frankfurt's Niddapark, which was identified as 29-year-old Irina A. The victim died from multiple knife wounds in the arms, upper body and head. The victim was fully clothed, but neither cell phone nor identity documents of the killed were found at the scene. Body jewelry was also stolen from the victim. In addition, investigators found that the woman was attacked on the sidewalk near a park bench and the body was later dragged onto a meadow with tall grass.

The police initially stated that they were investigating in all directions, but with the 50-year-old Jan M., a business partner of Irina A., they had a prime suspect in their sights early on, but who had initially been given an alibi by a woman . On May 15, the FAZ corrected its original report that the alibi came from his wife. After traces of blood and DNA matching that of Jan M. were found at the crime scene, he was arrested on urgent suspicion. The police assume that the two had arranged to go for a walk, in the course of which there was an argument that ended with the fatal attack on Irina A.

The public prosecutor's office assumes greed as the motive, because the dispute over jewelry and the income from a bar that was owned by Jan M. In March 2019, the Frankfurt am Main public prosecutor brought charges.

process

On August 27, 2019, the criminal case against Jan M. began before the regional court in Frankfurt am Main. The charges are murder, robbery resulting in death and fraud.

Before the act

Invented "sex mob" in Freßgass in Frankfurt

Irina A., who was killed in Niddapark, and Jan M., who was arrested as a suspect, hit the headlines nationwide almost 15 months before the crime. Irina A. worked as a waitress in Jan M.'s bar, at times she was even a partner in the business. In February 2017, the two claimed that on New Year's Eve 2016/17 a large group of North Africans had harassed and sexually assaulted women in Frankfurter Freßgass . These claims later turned out to be a lie.

Spread the story

The Bild newspaper , which wrote on February 6, 2017 of a “sex mob” that is said to have “raged” in Frankfurt's Freßgass, played a major role in spreading the story . Irina A. stated in the newspaper: "They grabbed my skirt, between my legs, on my breasts, everywhere." Bild described her as a "victim" who "breaks his silence". Jan M. is quoted in the paper as saying that "it was Arabs". The next day, on February 7, 2017, Sat.1 breakfast television filmed a report on the subject with the two of them in Jan M.'s restaurant. The American Kerry Reddington, a member and deputy chairman of the local foreigners' association, made contact with the picture. According to Zapp, Reddington is also said to have informed the AfD politician and the city council member Rainer Rahn about the alleged sex mob on February 22, 2017. According to the club's website, Reddington is also Chairman of the Board of Republicans Overseas Germany e. V. The story was picked up by the media around the world.

Investigation into fake criminal offense

Based on these reports, the Frankfurt police said there was no evidence that there were many attacks on women by migrants on New Year's Eve. In the Freßgass area, there were only two charges of bodily harm and two arrests (a Georgian and a German) on New Year's Eve. Other Frankfurt restaurateurs shared this assessment that there were “no incidents”. The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung therefore wrote of a "sex mob that no one has seen" and questioned the credibility of Jan M., who after researching the newspaper on social media with videos etc. a. by right-wing extremists such as Ignaz Bearth and shares films that a group calling itself National Resistance is continuously showing through Berlin. Furthermore, Jan M. is described as an AfD sympathizer who rejects the current migration policy.

On February 14, 2017, the Frankfurt police announced that the above-mentioned attack on the couple had probably not taken place. When alleged witnesses were questioned, considerable doubts had arisen. In addition, Irina A. was not in Germany on New Year's Eve, but in Belgrade , which is suggested by plane tickets seized by the police. Based on these findings, the Frankfurt Public Prosecutor's Office initiated an investigation into faking a criminal offense . On November 24, 2017, charges were brought against Irina A. and Jan M., and the trial should begin on June 8, 2018. The exact motive for spreading the fictional story is not known. The most plausible seems to be the desire to make Jan M.'s restaurant better known.
