Kristian Tonning Riise (born October 17, 1988 in Stange ) is a Norwegian politician of the conservative party Høyre . From June 2014 to January 2018 he was the chairman of Unge Høyre and has been a member of the Storting since 2017 .

Life

Between 2009 and 2012 Riise studied history of ideas at the University of Oslo . He then worked as a project employee at the bourgeois-liberal think tank Civita until 2014 . During his time there, in 2013 he published the book Diktator i forkledning (German: dictator in disguise ) about the then Venezuelan President Hugo Chávez .

Political career

From 2011 to 2015 he sat in the local parliament of his home town of Stange and in the Fylkesting of what was then the province of Hedmark . On June 22, 2014, he was elected chairman of the youth organization Unge Høyre . In the 2017 general election , Riise moved into the Norwegian national parliament in Storting . There he represents the constituency of Hedmark and he became a member of the labor and social committee.

Allegations and resignation

In January 2018 he resigned as chairman of Unge Høyre after several allegations against him of sexual harassment and inappropriate behavior had previously been made by party colleagues. One of the allegations concerned the sexual harassment of a 16-year-old girl at a Unge Høyre conference in 2014. Riise admitted that she had behaved in an unacceptable manner. It was also reported that two provincial associations were taking steps to prevent Riise from being alone with young women. The party's internal investigation on the basis of eleven complaints came to the conclusion that he had repeatedly violated the party's ethical guidelines and excluded him from events organized by the youth organization.

In March 2019, he announced that he would not run again for a seat in parliament in the 2021 Storting election.

Positions

In May 2020, Riise said she had voted against his party's line and in favor of legalizing egg donation and the right of single women to artificial insemination in a storting vote.
