The camera model Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark III is a digital, mirrorless system camera housing of the manufacturer-independent Micro-Four-Thirds-System . It is the successor to the Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II and was announced and launched in February 2020.

Technical features and innovations

Like the previous model, the camera housing is made of a magnesium alloy and is equipped with a swiveling and folding, touch-sensitive monitor , an electronic viewfinder with diopter compensation and a hot shoe .

The arrangement of the controls was largely unchanged from the E-M1 Mark II. New in this model is a joystick for faster control of the autofocus points. The built-in digital neutral density filter allows working with very long exposure times. Its strength can be adjusted between one and five f-stops.

The autofocus system with the combination of TTL phase detection and contrast measurement was also adopted from the OM-D E-M1 Mark II. A new addition is the so-called Starry Sky AF , a newly developed algorithm for astrophotography that enables the automatic focusing of stars in the night sky .

The camera can still be controlled from smartphones , tablet PCs or computers via a WLAN connection. In addition, it has the Bluetooth interface introduced with the Olympus OM-D E-M1X for coupling with the Olympus Image Share app.
