The Olympus PEN E-P5 is a mirrorless system camera made by Olympus for the Micro Four Thirds system . It replaces the Olympus PEN E-P3 and has been available in European stores since June 2013. Technically, the E-P5 is based on the Olympus OM-D E-M5 .

Innovations and special features

Compared to its predecessor, the PEN has a fastest shutter speed of 1 / 8,000 of a second. In addition, it now has two dials on the top instead of one on top and one on the back, both of which can be assigned two functions that can be selected via a small switch on the back. The monitor also has a higher resolution, approx. 1 million subpixels compared to approx. 600,000. Despite the almost identical external dimensions, it is around 50 g heavier.

The E-P5 is the first PEN to have WiFi , and a free mobile app for Android and iOS can be used to download and edit images and control the camera. For this purpose, the camera sets up its own W-LAN, which the smartphone or tablet can log into.

Like many Olympus cameras, the E-P5 is very configurable. A total of 5 buttons can be assigned various functions. These and other settings can be saved as so-called MySets . Some buttons and the automatic settings of the mode wheel can be assigned to these MySets in order to activate them.

Together with the PEN, a new electronic viewfinder was presented, which is offered in a kit together with the E-P5. It has 2.36 million subpixels.

design

The E-P5 has a retro design and is visually reminiscent of the Olympus Pen F from 1963. This is not only reminiscent of the two-tone version (silver / black), but also the lettering above the lens.
