The Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III is a mirrorless system camera from Olympus for the Micro-Four-Thirds system. It is the successor to the OM-D E-M10 Mark II and has been available in European stores since September 2017. With a new operating concept, the camera is aimed primarily at beginners who have previously photographed with a smartphone . The successor model Olympus OM-D E-M10 IV appeared in August 2020 .

Innovations

The most noticeable innovation of the OM-D E-M10 Mark III is the new operating concept. The touch operation on the display has been significantly expanded compared to the OM-D E-M10 Mark II: After selecting a recording mode with the mode dial on the top of the housing and pressing the so-called quick selection button, a menu appears with pictograms for calling up slide controls. In this way, the color temperature, color saturation, brightness or depth of field can be set. The camera visualizes the expected effect of the setting in real time on the live display. The inexperienced user can assess the effect of the image before the shutter is released. This function is criticized because it only compensates for a lack of photographic background knowledge without achieving a learning effect.

The case has been changed slightly compared to its predecessor. The dimensions remained almost the same, the weight increased by 20 g. The OM-D E-M10 Mark III contains the TruePic-VIII image processor, which is also included in the OM-D E-M1 Mark II . The number of focus measuring points increased from 81 to 121, the series frame rate rose marginally from 8.5 to 8.6 frames per second. Video recordings are now also possible in 4K resolution at 30 frames per second.

Awards

The Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark III won the iF Design Award 2018.
