The Olympus OM-D E-M10 Mark II is a mirrorless system camera from Olympus for the Micro Four Thirds system. It is the successor to the OM-D E-M10 and has been available in European stores since September 2015. Two years later, the Olympus OM-D E-M10 III model , another successor, was launched.

Innovations

The case has been changed slightly compared to the previous model, the dimensions remained almost identical. The arrangement of the switches on the top of the camera has been revised, with the mode dial being moved from the left to the right. The resolution of the electronic viewfinder was increased from 1.44 million to 2.36, while the magnification factor rose slightly from 0.575 to 0.615.

The E-M10 Mark II now also includes the 5-axis image stabilizer of the more expensive OM-D models. With the introduction of a new electronic shutter , the shortest shutter speed is 1/16000 of a second compared to 1/4000 of a second in the previous model; at the same time, the serial frame rate increases from 8 to 8.5 frames per second and the frame rate for video recordings is up to 60 fps (instead of the previous 30 fps). In addition, the electronic shutter allows the camera to be released silently.

Like its predecessor, the E-M10 Mark II over its wireless interface and the Olympus app OI.Share on Android - and Apple iOS - smartphone or - Tablet remotely. With the help of the Olympus OI.Track app, it is also possible to subsequently add GPS position information to the images on the camera . To do this, the camera and smartphone or tablet must first be briefly connected via W-LAN in order to synchronize their clocks. Then you take pictures while the Olympus app is running without a connection to the camera and the position is recorded using GPS. At the end, you reconnect the camera to the app, which then transfers the recorded position data to the camera. The camera writes the GPS coordinates in the EXIF information of the photos.

Awards

  • In 2016 the camera housing was awarded the TIPA award "Best Mirrorless CSC Advanced" (CSC = Compact System Camera) by the Photo Press Association Technical Image Press Association (TIPA).
  • The European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) awarded the camera the "European Consumer Compact System Camera 2016-2017" award.
