Kristiina Kass (born May 14, 1970 in Tartu ) is an Estonian children's author , book illustrator and translator .

Life

Kass grew up in Tallinn as the daughter of the writer and humorist Kalju Kass and the children's book author Asta Kass . She graduated from the Tallinn Art High School in 1988 and then studied Finnish language and literature at the University of Helsinki . In the year of her university degree (1999) her first publications were in Finnish . Kristiina Kass writes both Finnish and Estonian, and she illustrates many of her books herself. She has also translated children's books from Finnish into Estonian.

Kristiina Kass, married Nokelainen, lives in Finland.

Literary work

After her debut in 2005, which she illustrated herself, Kass quickly gained a foothold on the Estonian children's book market and is now one of the established authors there. Her books are characterized by humor and a break with convention, so that she has been placed on a par with Andrus Kivirähk . The unconventionality can also lead to an undermining of the parental authority, as is the case in Samuel's Magic Cushion (2006): An ambitious mother makes her son's life hell, but in the end she becomes the victim of her own hunt for success and loses your family.

Kristiina Kass's books have so far been translated into Swedish and Russian.
