Kristin Thelander

Kristin Pedersen Thelander (* 1954 ) is an American horn player and music teacher.

Thelander holds a bachelor's degree in horn from St. Olaf College, musicology from the University of Minnesota and a doctorate (DMA) from the University of Wisconsin-Madison . In 1981 she won first prize at the American Horn Competition . She performed in the USA, Brazil and Mexico, in China, South Korea and in Europe and participated in national and international horn workshops. She was a member of the Advisory Board (from 1987), Secretary and Treasurer (from 1990) and Vice President of the International Horn Society .

She has taught at the University of New Mexico , where she recorded a CD as a member of the New Mexico Brass Quintet and played in the Santa Fe Symphony Orchestra . From 1989 to 2000 she was Professor of Horn and from 2000 to 2009 Director of the School of Music at the University of Iowa . Since 2009 she has been responsible for planning new buildings for the music school until 2016. She is a member of the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra and the Bon Vivant Horn Quartet and has played recordings a. a. at Crystal Records , CRI , Vienna Modern Masters , Centaur and Capstone Records .
