Kristina Poplavskaja

Kristina Poplavskaja (born July 24, 1971 in Vilnius ) is a former Lithuanian rower who won the bronze medal in a double scull with Birutė Šakickienė at the 2000 Olympic Games . Until August 2016, that was the only Olympic medal in rowing for Lithuania.

At the Junior World Championships in 1989 Poplavskaya won the bronze medal in the Soviet double foursome . At the Olympic Games in 1992 she rowed for the now independent Lithuania in a single , the 1.84 m tall rower took eleventh place. From 1997 she rowed with Birutė Šakickienė in double sculls, at the 1997 and 1998 World Championships the two took seventh place. In 1999 in St. Catharines , the two of them reached an A-final at international championships for the first time and took fourth place behind the boats from Germany, China and the Netherlands. The Chinese did not reach the A final at the Olympic regatta 2000 in Sydney, the two Lithuanians won the bronze medal behind the Germans and the Dutch. At the 2001 World Championships , the two Lithuanians reached the A-final, but were fifth more than seven seconds behind the bronze medal. At their last joint participation in the World Cup in Seville in 2002 , they finished seventh.
