General
The tasks of the coast guard as demarcation to the navy are civil in nature. These include marine protection ( MARPOL et al.), Fisheries control, control of the safety of tankers and ballast water control, counter-terrorism, illegal migration, countering drug smuggling and customs duties.
In the sea area off Croatia , which is popular with private yacht owners, the coast guard is alerted in the event of an emergency. Due to a series of accidents and emergencies at sea in the summer of 2011, the Croatian authorities carried out grid checks as part of the Safety at Sea 2011 campaign . In the third campaign around Zadar alone , 79 ships and boats and their crews were checked in Split . In another operation in the Šibenik area , 140 yachts, some of which were illegal, were stopped and severe fines were imposed.
