Beazley combined the stylistically similar vases of the group by Walters 48.42 , the Durand Painter and the Painter of Munich 2100 , and later he added the works that he had initially put together under Painter of Munich 2100 to the group von Walters 48.42 and included the Krokotos painter , who had been distinguished from Annie D. Ure . Beazley also added the painter of Munich 2050 . The Krokotos group corresponds to the Krokotos workshop put together by Ure . The group got its emergency name after the yellow chiton ( crocodile ) worn by the women depicted.

The group consists on the one hand of deep skyphoi with slightly concave lips. The lips were either painted black or decorated with ivy tendrils. The base was decorated with red and black or just black tongues. On the other hand, the group includes numerous eye cups . The vessels often depict scenes from the Dionysian area, with vine tendrils in the background.
