The Kronenbrot GmbH was a large bakery based in North Rhine-Westphalia Würselen .

history

The company was founded in 1865 by Franz Joseph Mainz in Würselen in the Aachen city region as a craft bakery and began to supply the area around Aachen for the first time under the name Kronenbrot in 1915, managed by his grandson Franz Mainz.

Company building

With around 1,000 employees at production sites in Würselen, Cologne and Witten, Kronenbrot GmbH was the largest supplier of baked goods in North Rhine-Westphalia and supplied around 3,000 food retailers and bulk consumers in North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate , Belgium , the Netherlands and France . This made it one of the five largest baked goods manufacturers in Germany.

Since 1985, Kronenbrot GmbH has been awarded the Federal Honorary Prize of the Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture for the quality of the baked goods every year .

At the beginning of 2017, funds advised by the British investment firm Signal Capital Partners of the former Deutsche Bank manager Elad Shraga took over the company with all three production sites. In June 2019, Kronenbrot filed for bankruptcy, but operations continued for the time being. On July 25, 2019, it was announced that the company will cease operations on July 31, 2019 and that all employees will be laid off. The Kronenbrot plant in Witten was taken over by Harry-Brot .
