history

Production site in Hanover

Johan Hinrich Harie, born in the Thirty Years' War , migrated from Bremerhaven to Altona , bought the house and land with the obligation to bake bread, and founded his bakery there in 1688. His sons already called themselves Harry. At the beginning of the 19th century, a miller joined the family in the fifth generation. At that time, the family already owned four shops in Altona. The Navy equipped itself with Harry's ship's biscuit . In 1890, Andreas Harry - in the seventh generation of the founding family - modernized and expanded his company in Altona. Johanna Harry, Franz Andreas Harry's widow, ran the business for 37 years. In 1929 the son Franz Harry took over the Hannoversche Brotfabrik AG (Harry-HaBag). During the Second World War, concentration camp prisoners from the Hanover-Limmer concentration camp, a subcamp of the Neuengamme concentration camp near Hamburg, were forced to produce and to clear the factory building. In 1963 the company was relocated to the green meadow for cost reasons .

In the 1960s, Harry-Brot GmbH began supplying the grocery trade with prepackaged bread and thus became a branded item. In 1970 the company headquarters was relocated to Schenefeld.
