The Kroton mine-throwing system (Polish name: ISM "Kroton": I nżynieryjny S ystem M inowania ) is a mine-laying tank of the Polish army .
development
In 2008, the Polish armaments company Huta Stalowa Wola received the order to develop a mobile mine throwing system on a chain chassis and manufacture it for the Polish army. The base vehicle is the Opal tank model , a modified version of the Soviet MT-LB , which has been manufactured under license in VR Poland since the 1970s by Huta Stalowa Wola.
technology
The track chassis was only slightly changed, in contrast to the superstructures. The crew compartment was completely removed and instead a platform was created in the rear area of the vehicle, which is intended for the mine throwing units. The Kroton is equipped with four turrets with 20 tubes each, which can move 400 anti-vehicle or anti-personnel mines to the rear or to the side of the vehicle at a distance of 60 × 600 meters within 15 minutes. It is possible to adjust the mine density, the position of the mines and the self-destruction of the mines during laying. While throwing the croton can reach a speed of 5 to 25 km / h, the throwing distance of the mines is a minimum of 30 m to a maximum of 90 m.
