history

Grottenhof around 1830, lith. Institution JF Kaiser, Graz

In 1360, a large and a small courtyard were mentioned in the land register of Admont Abbey in the Krottendorf village of St. Martin Castle . The larger court, the Plattlhof, was sold to Johann von Paar in 1590 and relieved of subjection by Archduke Ferdinand. Johann von Paar had the farm expanded into a noble farm and called it "Krottenstein". In 1622, his descendant, Rudolf Freiherr von Paar, sold the farm along with a few other properties in the Graz field to Prince Johann Ulrich von Eggenberg . After the sale, Baron von Paar continued to pay the property tax for the property without his knowledge until 1635. After 1635 the farm became a farm again and was called "Lainachhof".

At the beginning of the 18th century, Johann Caspar Mejak acquired the farm and expanded it again into a noble farm. His widow sold the estate to St. Lambrecht Abbey in 1738 . In the period around 1780/86 the property was redesigned. After the dissolution of the St. Lambrecht monastery in 1786, the farm passed into bourgeois hands. In 1869 the state of Styria bought the estate to house an agricultural school.

description

The core of the building block dates from the 16th century. The building is covered by a hipped mansard roof and the attic floor has ox-eye windows . The facade is in the slab style and was probably designed around 1780/86 by someone close to Josef Hueber . Some of the windows have wrought iron grilles .

The staircase is spanned by a square vault and in part has a classicistic wrought iron railing. There are two classicistic stucco ceilings on the upper floor.

The farm building erected around 1780/86 received an extension in the second quarter of the 19th century. It also has a slab-style facade and is covered by a hip roof. The hall on the ground floor has three aisles and is vaulted by a square vault.
