The Wetzelsdorf district is the 15th district of Graz . It is located in the west of the city (ie on the "right side of the Mur ") between the districts of Eggenberg in the north and Straßgang in the south.
history
The earliest written document is from 1144 and is "Wercelsdorf". The name goes back to the Old High German personal name Wecil / Wezzelo .
The district, which originally belonged to Eggenberg, developed in the 19th century along the southern railway line and the Alte Poststraße as an industrial area with workers' quarters. After the "Anschluss" of Austria in 1938 , Wetzelsdorf was incorporated into "Groß-Graz".
