Gösting is the 13th district of Graz . It is located in the north-west of the city between Mur and Plabutsch or the ridge to the north of it, which is crowned by the Gösting castle ruins .
history
The place name Gösting comes either from the Slavic gostinca - " hostel " - or from gozd - "mountain forest". Already before the year 1138 the Aribonen Swiker von Gösting founded the castle on what is now Gösting ruins mountain , formerly also Annenberg, and the village Gösting. Around 1430 the village consisted of 33 farms and a few craftsmen, including two millers in what is still called the Muller Quarter and on the Thaler Bach .
In 1707 the castle and manor were acquired by the Counts of Attems . Almost completely destroyed by fire due to a lightning strike in 1723, the castle began to deteriorate in the 18th century.
From 1850 to 1938 Gösting was a separate municipality , which was led by the community leaders and from 1919 by mayors . Some street names still remember their names, such as Franz Weixelbaum or Josef Pock . In 1931 Gösting received market rights , in 1938 it became part of Graz and since 1946 has formed the 13th district of the provincial capital Graz, which also includes the Raach settlement further north , which in its current form has been on former pastureland since the 1940s originated.
Economy, schools, transport
- Some industrial companies that have settled along the Graz freight station
 - Wine was grown on the mountain slopes until the end of the 19th century . Until the beginning of the 21st century, only the Brothers Kleinoscheg sparkling wine cellars were evidence of this . Until 2013 only the street name Weinbergweg gave an idea of its earlier use, since then there has been a first attempt to grow wine there, but so far on a very small scale.
 - Large forest areas on the Plabutsch and on the ruins mountain
 - Higher Technical College BULME (since 1920 at the current location)
 - North portal of the Plabutsch tunnel on the Pyhrn Autobahn (opened in 1987)
 - Bus routes 40, 48, 52 and 85. From 1901 to the 1950s, a tram line also ran from the center of Graz to Gösting; there was also a stop on the southern railway line Bruck an der Mur - Graz.
 - The local sports club is called ASV Gösting, whose soccer team plays in the regional league center.
