The Anna Church or Parish Church Graz-Gösting is a Roman Catholic parish church in the 13th district of Gösting Graz . It is the parish church of the Graz-Gösting parish in the Graz-West deanery of the City Church of Graz .
The parish currently forms a parish association together with the Thal parish , which is looked after by a pastor. The parish has a small branch church in the Raach district .
History and design
There was already an Anna chapel in the Gösting castle ruins . After lightning struck the powder store of the castle in the 18th century and destroyed it, the baroque castle Neugösting was built in 1728 at the foot of the castle hill. The Anna chapel built in it was mainly used as a private chapel by the Attems family , who owned the castle . It was visited by many people from the area and from 1904 even a church building with a pastoral care center in Gösting was considered, but this initially failed due to the lack of money.
From December 1945 church services were held regularly in a small barrack church in Raach. In June 1946, a separate parish was finally established and the services were relocated to the premises of the former branch of the Puntigam brewery . The brewery was then slowly converted into a church with a tower and a pastoral care center and consecrated to St. Anne in 1960. A five-year total renovation began in 1994, during which the tent roof was replaced by a steel structure. The interior of the church received a new liturgical zone with an altar and ambo based on the designs of the artist Christiane Brettschuh.
In front of the parish church is a separate forecourt where events take place. A labyrinth was designed on this in April 2019.
