Maria Annunciation Church in Kroisbach

The Maria Annunciation Church , also Graz-Kroisbach parish church , is a Roman Catholic church in Kroisbach , part of the eleventh Graz district of Mariatrost .

History and design

At the point where today's church stands there was a spring shrine dating back to pre-Christian times. The chapel, which was built in the Baroque period and consecrated to St. John Nepomuk , was built there on the road to Mariatrost. The small village of Kroisbach belonged to the Mariatroster cadastral community of Wenisbuch . The community itself was raised to an independent city district in 1946. After the Second World War, a settlement of barracks was built on Rehgrund, a part of Kroisbach, to accommodate the residents of the station district that had been destroyed by bombs. A wooden emergency church was finally built next to the old chapel in 1954.

The pastoral care center that exists today with the Church of the Annunciation is located a few meters from the Kroisbach stop of tram line 1. The building complex was integrated into the surrounding settlements on the edge of the Leechwald and consecrated in 1974. The plans come from the architects Wolfgang Kapfhammer and Johannes Wegan . The Graz artist Gerhard Lojen designed the interior of the church.

On the tent-like construction of the roof there is a tower with a cross attached to the top. The bells in the tower have four reliefs that are worth seeing. These were made according to designs by the Graz artist Erwin Huber . A T-shaped cross on the church forecourt indicates the sacred function of the building.

The parish is part of a parish association with Graz-St.Leonhard and Graz-Ragnitz.
