History and design

The pastoral care center Christ the Risen Christ of the Graz-Süd parish includes the church of the same name with the bell tower, a pastoral wing, a library, the parish kindergarten and the rectory. The building complex was built from 1974 to 1976 according to the plans of the architects Wolfgang Kapfhammer and Johannes Wegan . The church was consecrated on December 11, 1976. The bell tower was only added in 1994.

The center of the pastoral care center is formed by the altar and ambo, which were designed by the artist Gernot Völkl . The Christ statue comes from the Austrian sculptor Josef Pillhofer . The rows of chairs are grouped in a semicircle around the sanctuary. Worth mentioning are the Loreto Madonna, a permanent loan from the Universalmuseum Joanneum , and an icon by Vladimir Zagorodnikow. The Anton Lippe Memorial Organ consists of 25 registers and was built in 1984. There are four bells in the bell tower, named Christ, Mary, Elisabeth and Michael bells. They were cast in Passau in 1994 . Both the organ and the church square were named after the cathedral music director and cathedral vicar Anton Lippe (1905–1974).

The ensemble of the church rectory and bell tower stands as an example of the Graz Church Modernist under monument protection .
