Ruperti Church in Graz-Straßgang

The Rupertikirche or Filialkirche Hl. Rupert , also called Aribonenkirche , is a Roman Catholic church building in Graz's 16th  district of Straßgang .

church

The Rupertikirche is essentially an early Romanesque , possibly even Carolingian church, which was first mentioned in a document in 1354. The small church is perhaps the oldest church in the Graz city area. The building, which is now privately owned, was probably commissioned directly by the Archbishop of Salzburg as a counterweight to the nearby Aribones' own churches (St. Georg, now Strasbourg parish church Maria im Elend , and St. Martin ). While the building's simple architecture has largely been preserved from the outside, the interior has been rebuilt several times: in 1620 the nave was vaulted and the choir was built, and the high altar was completed in 1675.
