Erwin Huber (born May 18, 1929 in Graz ; † April 27, 2006 ibid) was an Austrian sculptor .

Career

Erwin Huber first graduated from the Graz School of Applied Arts with Wilhelm Gösser , Walter Ritter and Alexander Silveri . During his training at the arts and crafts school, the artistic personality Wilhelm Gössler took the talented student Erwin Huber into his studio as a helper who helped him with the sculpting work. After his training he worked in the restoration and sculpture workshop of Peter Neuböck . Only after he had learned the classic work of the sculptor and implemented it with sufficient practice did he begin to devote himself to the modern sculptural empire. The Graz professor and museum director Wilfried Skreiner called it "a sensitive abstraction" that distinguishes Erwin Huber. At the same time, Wilfried Skreiner also recognized expressionist tendencies in Erwin Huber's work. Subsequently, he took part in the summer academy in Salzburg, where he got to know the Italian artist personality Giacomo Manzù . Invited by him, he went to Italy for further training with Giacomo Manzù and thus got to know modernism in Italy and especially the work of Giacomo Manzù as an essential artistic personality in his career and artistic development. Huber had been a freelance artist since 1955 and belonged to the Kunstverein Werkbund .

In his work mainly the human figure is reflected, which he portrayed profane or sacred . One of the main considerations was the woman. In addition, he was also considered an excellent portraitist. As such, he has portrayed important personalities from art and politics and these are publicly displayed. Huber dealt very closely with religious issues. For this he created u. a. the crucifixes for the Styrian Katholikentag 1981 and the Austrian Katholikentag 1983. With these designs and works his development to independent work began and continued successfully for decades.
