Walter Ritter
Walter Ritter (born May 26, 1905 in Graz , † February 2, 1986 in Linz ) was an Austrian sculptor .
From 1948 he built up the master class for sculpture at the art school of the city of Linz .
Live and act
education
Ritter attended the Graz Commercial Academy from 1918 to 1921 , from 1921 to 1925 the wood and stone carving class at the Graz School of Applied Arts, among others with Wilhelm Gösser, and from 1925 to 1928 the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna among others with Josef Müllner .
Professional Activities
He undertook several study trips to various European countries and in 1925, accompanied by Herbert Eichholzer and Ferdinand Bilger, to Abyssinia, and initially worked as a freelancer in Vienna and from 1933 in Graz. Anna-Lülja Simidoff , Axl Leskoschek and Kurt Neumann also belonged to his circle of friends at the time . In 1935, Ritter became set designer at the Graz City Theater .
In 1938 he went to Berlin , but returned to Graz in 1939, where he took part in meetings of the resistance group around Herbert Eichholzer. Military service took him to the Caucasus . He was a prisoner of war in Scotland .
In 1946 he was appointed as a teacher at the Graz School of Applied Arts, and on September 1, 1948, he took over the sculpture class at the City of Linz Art School.

- Member of the Graz Secession from 1934, participation in their annual exhibitions until 1937
- President of the Association for Artists and Art Lovers MAERZ in Linz (1956/57)

- Three Market Women in the Karlhofsiedlung, Linz (1965)
- Christ with a book and a lamb , relief figure made of cast concrete, Evangelical Johanneskirche in the Neue Heimat district , Linz (1965)
- Flute players on the lower Donaulände , Linz (design 1963, cast and installation 1980)
- Bronze bust of Mozart in the Freihaus Starhemberg (1957)
- Hermann Bahr memorial plaque , Altstadtviertel , Linz (1953)
- Reclining youth , Harbach settlement, Linz (1952)
- Rectangular entrance gate with copper-clad door leaves and an ornamental lattice gate behind it on the west wall of Martinskirche in Linz (1957)
- Animal reliefs at and in the Dr. Ernst Koref School (around 1961)

Ritter's artistic career was shaped by numerous activities and participation in various international exhibitions:
- For example, he was represented at the World Exhibition in Brussels in 1935 with a three-meter-high sculpture of a seated Madonna .
- He took part in the Venice Biennale in 1936 and in the São Paulo Biennale in 1953 .
- In 1947 he took part in an exhibition at the Art Club in Rome .
