The Dr. Ernst Koref School is an elementary school and new middle school with a focus on music in Bindermichl in the Waldegg district in the city of Linz in Upper Austria . The school building is a listed building .

history

The school, named after the former mayor Ernst Koref (1891–1988), was built according to the plans of the municipal design office with its director, architect Fritz Fanta and under construction manager and architect Wilhelm Teichtmeister, and opened in 1961. Various modifications were made later.

Architecture and art in construction

The school consists of two primary and two secondary school units with a gym. The buildings, arranged in parallel, were connected with a low connecting corridor. Modern reinforced concrete skeleton construction was combined with traditional forms such as quarry stone masonry and brick construction. Glass mosaic concrete windows create a colored interior effect.

The interior of the school shows itself with patterned terrazzo floors and two opposite stairs. The entrance hall has brick-faced side walls and the connecting passage is lined with narrow round columns.

Art in architecture : There are animal reliefs by the sculptor Walter Ritter on the facade and in the entrance hall . The sculptor Gudrun Baudisch-Wittke created a ceramic fish fountain . A bust of Ernst Koref by the sculptor Franz Strahammer stands on a pedestal as a steel-cut block of writing by the metal sculptor Helmuth Gsöllpointner . There is a clay mosaic wall made of glazed clay by the painter Rudolf Kolbitsch . On the clay mosaic wall is a quote from the ode to the letters by Josef Weinheber , designed by the artist Friedrich Neugebauer .

The elementary school (VS 30 Linz) is headed by Christa Konrad, the new middle school (NMS 22 Linz) by Ingrid Dangl.
