Kang Eun-gyo (born December 13, 1945 in Hongwŏn , Hamgyŏng-namdo ) is a South Korean writer .

life and work

Kang Eun-gyo was born in Hongwŏn in Hamgyŏng-namdo in 1945. She grew up in Seoul , attended Kyŏnggi Girls 'Middle School and Kyŏnggi Girls' High School. She received her Bachelor in English Literature as well as her Ph.D. in Korean Literature from Yonsei University . She made her literary debut with the publication of the work Night of the Pilgrims (순례자 의 밤), for which she received the New Writer Prize of Sasanggye Magazine in 1968. She is currently a professor of Korean literature at Dong-a University .

She writes books that are critical of society and government and campaigns for human rights and against the oppression of the individual by state power. Kang Eun-gyo received six Korean literary prizes between 1968 and 2011.
