Harmen Hinrik Thies (* 26. December 1941 in Buxtehude ) is a German architectural historian , emeritus university professor , author and publisher and co-founder and scientific even after his retirement head of the Bet Tfila - Research Unit for Jewish Architecture in Europe .

Life

Born in Buxtehude, Harmen Thies studied architecture and art history at the Technical University of Braunschweig and received his doctorate there in 1976 under Martin Gosebruch with a thesis on Michelangelo's design for the architecture of the Kapitolsplatz .

1977 to 1981 Thies assisted at the Art History Institute in Florence . In 1983 he was appointed professor at the Institute for Building History at the Technical University of Braunschweig and taught there until 2007.

2003 was Harmen Thies co-founder of Bet Tfila - Research Unit for Jewish Architecture in Europe (based in Jerusalem and Braunschweig ), for which he - together with Aliza Cohen-Mushlin - author and editor of the book series Series of Bet Tfila - Research Center as well as the series Small Writings of the Bet Tfila Research Center is.
