Great Austrian State Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Grand Austrian State Prize is the highest distinction that the Republic of Austria bestows once a year on an artist for outstanding achievements. In addition to the Great Austrian State Prize discussed here, there are numerous other state prizes in the Republic of Austria .

description

The Grand Austrian State Prize in its current form was created in 1950 by the then Minister of Education Felix Hurdes ( there had been an award of this name since 1934 in the first republic ). Austrian citizenship or permanent residence in Austria is required to be granted. Since 1971 the prize, which previously could be awarded annually to winners in several categories, has only been awarded in one category and to a single person per year. The Grand Austrian State Prize is awarded on the proposal of the Austrian Art Senate without a fixed principle of rotation within the categories of architecture , visual arts , literature and music for an artistic life's work. Since 2003 it has been endowed with 30,000 euros.
