Günther Domenig
Günther Domenig (born July 6, 1934 in Klagenfurt ; † June 15, 2012 in Graz ) was an Austrian architect .
Life
Domenig studied architecture from 1953 to 1959 at the Technical University of Graz . Even after completing his studies, Graz remained his main place of work. He taught at the Technical University (since 1980 as a university professor), at the same time many of his buildings were also realized in Graz.
From 1963 to 1975 he worked with Eilfried Huth . After that he worked mostly alone, some works were also created together with Hermann Eisenköck . In 1998 Günther Domenig, Hermann Eisenköck and Herfried Peyker founded Architektur Consult ZT GmbH, which he left in 2006.
Since 2003 Günther Domenig has mainly worked with Gerhard Wallner in the architects Domenig & Wallner ZT GmbH.
After his death Domenig was cremated in Graz and the urn was later buried in the grave of the Domenig family in Feldkirchen in Carinthia .
style
Domenig's architectural style has anticipated various architectural trends such as structuralism , brutalism and deconstructivism since the 1960s and, in some cases, decisively shaped them. His main work is assigned to deconstructivism and is located between expressionism and poststructuralism . Some works claim to be total works of art. This includes, above all, his personal magnum opus , the stone house in Steindorf on Lake Ossiacher See .
