The Kirchliche Pädagogische Hochschule Graz (KPH Graz) is a pedagogical university of the diocese Graz-Seckau in Graz in Styria .

history

The Pedagogical Academy was founded in Graz-Eggenberg in the Institute of the School Sisters in Graz . Since 2009, the university has been located in Langen Gasse in the Carolinum Augusteum in the 3rd district of Geidorf . The Episcopal Gymnasium and the KPH practice school are also located in the building .

The second Vatican Council (1962–65) gave the impetus with its decision to call Christians to shape public life. At that time, the founding bishop Josef Schoiswohl formulated a very open and future-oriented goal: The diocesan educational academy should be a place of encounter with the present day. This encounter should be universal and cosmopolitan and take place in freedom. It has to take people as a whole seriously.

Since then, the Pedagogical Center has seen itself as a house of dialogue with all intellectual and educational currents in society. It is carried by the Christian spirit and committed to the Christian image of man and therefore open to all denominations. Teachers and students can work together here in freedom and tolerance .

Today about 1000 students, 200 pupils, 180 teachers and 40 employees work under the common roof of the pedagogical center.

management

  • Siegfried Barones, who was already the director of the Pedagogical Academy, was the rector of the University of Education until 2019. In October 2019, Andrea Seel succeeded him as rector.
