Hans Kupelwieser (born April 8, 1948 in Lunz am See , Lower Austria ) is an Austrian sculptor , graphic artist , photographer and media artist.

Life

Kupelwieser, who attended the Bundesgymnasium and Bundesrealgymnasium Franz-Keim-Gasse in Mödling and graduated in 1968 , lives in Graz and Vienna and teaches plastic design at the Graz University of Technology at the Institute for Contemporary Art.

Kupelwieser developed his concept of sculpture during his studies ( University of Applied Arts Vienna ) under the influence of Bazon Brock and Peter Weibel . “A characteristic of his work is defined based on his multiple approach in the use of a wide variety of materials, media and functions.” In the early 1990s, Hans Kupelwieser worked on “pneumatic sculptures”, which he called gonflables .

In 2004, Hans Kupelwieser designed a memorial stele for the Hietzing VHS in Vienna for the Hietzing synagogue that was destroyed in 1938 .
