State Prize for Architecture

The State Prize for Architecture is a project-related State Prize for Architecture of the Republic of Austria , in which “outstanding architectural projects in the commercial sector are awarded which set important accents and impulses in the respective thematic focus”. Eligible are architects and civil engineers for building construction or planning officers according to the EEA Architects Ordinance. Only commercial companies are allowed to participate as builders. The architect, client and the property are awarded jointly.

Evaluation criteria are:

  • the quality of the design, i.e. the urban integration, architectural design, embedding in the landscape, etc.
  • the functionality
  • the user value
  • the innovation content
  • sustainability through resource conservation (during construction, operation and dismantling)
  • the economy
  • the flexibility (adaptability to market changes)
  • the regional effects

The State Prize for Architecture is organized by the Federal Ministry for Science, Research and Economy together with the Austrian Chamber of Commerce , the Austrian Architecture Foundation , the Federal Chamber of Architects and Engineering Consultants and the Federal Ministry for Education, Art and Culture .
