The T-Center is an office building in the Sankt Marx district in Vienna's 3rd district, Landstrasse , which was built for Deutsche Telekom between 2002 and 2004 according to designs by the Austrian architects Günther Domenig , Hermann Eisenköck and Herfried Peyker .
history
The start of construction of the T-Center in 2002 represented one of the starting points for a new urban development in the area of the former cattle market and slaughterhouse in the Vienna district of Sankt Marx . Built according to plans by the architect Günther Domenig and his team (Hermann Eisenköck, Herfried Peyker), After a construction period of 26 months, the first offices were ready in spring 2004. The users of the office space are the Deutsche Telekom subsidiaries T-Mobile Austria , T-Systems , the banking software manufacturer Software Daten Service , Telering and, after the takeover by T-Mobile, since mid-2018 also UPC Austria . There are also some publicly accessible catering establishments on the ground floor. There are also guided tours of the T-Center, during office hours and by appointment, from Monday to Friday.
Criticism and Awards
Due to the unconventional shape and the use of unplastered concrete surfaces, the T-Center quickly attracted attention beyond the city limits, but the building was also discussed controversially among the population.
Günther Domenig and his team received the following awards for the T-Center:
- 2004: Otto Wagner town planning award
- 2006: Austrian State Prize for Architecture
- 2006: The Chicago Athenaeum International Architecture Award
Data
The T-Center has 119,000 m² of usable office space for around 3000 employees, with a gross usable area of 134,000 m². With a length of 255 meters, the building reaches 60 meters at the highest point.
