Steiermärkischer Kunstverein Werkbund

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Steiermärkischer Kunstverein Werkbund (STKVWB), founded in 1863 by Franz von Meran (Franz Ludwig Johann Baptist Graf von Meran, Freiherr von Brandhofen), was set up as a promotion association for contemporary art - that with a permanent seat in Graz , but artists from Styria and Furthermore.

history

After the founding of the Grazer Landesmuseum Joanneum , today's Universalmuseum Joanneum, by Archduke Johann in 1811, the initiative of the family of the Counts of Merano was continued in the founding of the Styrian Art Association Werkbund. As the first president of this new art association, he made this essential step in 1865 to promote contemporary art and the Styrian understanding of art.

Art lovers, writers and visual artists have aligned this association together in its goals. In doing so, they saw art and education equally as their task and from the outset won important personalities for the association for art.

A total of more than 150 active people shape the artistic face of the association today, around 75% of whom are visual artists. Artistic members from 15 nations round off the colorful range, plus there are around 300 art lovers who support them.

The Steiermärkischer Kunstverein Werkbund has always promoted young art and artists and pursued the principle of altruism - it was never profit-oriented. Today the association has its own gallery in which mainly young artists of the association can exhibit, but also external artists. Curt Schnecker was the driving force behind the establishment of this exhibition facility during his time as president. Funding was superficially important to him.

Following the pluralistic ideas already contained in the founding statutes, the Steiermärkischer Kunstverein Werkbund opened up in the ten years under Schnecker beyond the fields of fine art and literature to object and material art , ceramics , tapestry, artistic photography and music .
