Philipp Grein

Philipp Markus Grein (born October 13, 1988 in Graz ) is an Austrian artist and entrepreneur .

Life

After completing the alternative service at the Odilien-Blindeninstitut , Philipp Grein studied architecture at the Technical University of Graz . In 2012 he joined the Steiermärkischer Kunstverein Werkbund , followed the following year with the first solo exhibition MOMENTE in Graz and participation in the collective exhibition arm makes wild in Ljubljana . In 2014 another solo exhibition took place in the Werkbund Galerie under the motto FLYING . In the following years, Grein was invited to other international exhibitions, including several works at the ArAnimA in Paris. After his works became more and more popular, Philipp Grein began to upload them to social networks, which quickly attracted the attention of the international online community.

In 2015, Philipp Grein founded the online wine store Gschickter Wein together with the Graz musicologist Lucia Laggner , for which Grein also illustrated. In 2017, Grein took part in the German cooking show The Perfect Dinner , which Grein won. He received special media attention through his public marriage proposal. Shortly afterwards, Philipp Grein published his first rap song called Poseidon under the pseudonym MC FIPSI .

Grein supports several animal welfare associations in Austria and Great Britain with his work.

Philipp Grein lives with his wife, grandmother and numerous animals from animal welfare in a house on the outskirts of Graz, which, in addition to his place of residence, also serves as a studio, gallery and wine store.

The main focus in Philipp Grein's work is animal motifs, less known are his earlier works that are critical of society. In addition to ink and watercolors, as in the more successful works from the Raining Colors series, coffee - such as in the Spilled Coffee series - or other materials are also used.

"My love for animals, my fascination with their behavior and their incredible beauty keep me painting watercolor illustrations of them. My art is my way of expressing how I see these amazing creatures. Sometimes with a slight sense of humor, I'm trying to show how worthy of protection they are and how important it is to respect them. "
